BAROQUE EXTRAVAGANZA

Ensemble Amaranthos has become recognized as one of the best new groups in the Early Music Scene since its foundation in 2006 at the Royal College of Music. They aim to present our musical cultural heritage freshly and innovatively to modern audiences.

Soprano Erica Eloff, winner of the London Handel Competition, and violinist Sara Deborah Struntz were both chosen for the Making Music/Young Soloist Awards 2008, and have performed together in this combination at the Brighton Early Music Festival.

FLIGHT BRIGADE

Flight Brigade are a coming together of two families; the Baines and the Hughes with musician friends joining over the years. They perform at venues and festivals all over the UK, and their EP Graduation Day is receiving international airplay, regularly featuring on BBC Radio2 to critical acclaim. They recently composed the complete music for an ITV documentary. For this event they will be performing an acoustic set to suit the beautiful church acoustics.

WORKSHOP AND MASTERCLASS

Players of all ages and stages can join in on a workshop exploring Pachelbel’s Canon as well as some improvisation. At 3pm Violinists Sara Deborah Struntz and Dorry Macaulay publicly coach individuals and groups on pieces presented by the participants. Registration required. A Pianist will be provided.

Masterclass fee: £5. The workshop is free.

SOUTHDOWNS CAMERATA

Family-friendly orchestral concert where classical music becomes a feast for the whole community. The programme includes Purcell's Abdelazer Suite, Vivaldi's Double Cello Concerto, Grieg's Holberg Suite and two 21st century premieres by Dorry Macaulay and Alessandro Timossi.

Free Entry, retiring collection

The SouthDowns Camerata stands at the heart of the Festival as its main orchestral body. The string orchestra was founded in 2013 on the initiative of local musicians joining forces to perform great repertoire together at very high quality. Under the leadership of Sara Deborah Struntz and Dorry Macaulay, the orchestra has also collaborated with local string playing children to manifest and nurture the love of music and the joy of performing.
